A note from Daisys family, an Aussiedoodle from Ruthie and Rhett! Abounding Graces first litter!!!!
Laurie,
In response to your questions, I think Daisy would be an exceptional candidate for such a service alert dog, or other working dog for that matter. We have been extremely pleased with her temperament, both around people and other animals, her intelligence, and her energy level inside and out. She's probably one of the sweetest dogs I've been around, & I'm not just saying that because she's mine. I watch her closely around other people and animals both for her protection and theirs, and she is nothing but friendly to everyone/everything. My parents kept her several weeks ago and were very skeptical about keeping a large dog puppy (they've only raised small dogs). At the end of the weekend, they didn't want to give her back and have called numerous times since then telling us how much they enjoyed her & how sweet she was. Everybody in the neighborhood knows her by name and they love to pet & play with her. She's also very intelligent. As I mentioned early on, I've never owned nor wanted a dog that had to be enclosed or tethered to keep it from running off. Since we brought her home we've let her out of the house to go to the bathroom without a leash, played with her outside without a leash, and often let her run around our neighborhood park & play with other dogs & kids without a leash. She is obedient & quickly learned to come, sit, lay, fetch & how to ride in the car, among other things. Finally, she's an inside dog as you know. By about 4-4 1/2 months old she was fully house trained, and we have not had a problem with chewing. She only chewed one thing she wasn't supposed to, & otherwise has only chewed her toys. We've also been very pleased with her energy level, especially for a puppy. She loves to play & go outside to run, but inside she's pleasantly mellow & loves to just sit or lay next to us. I can say all this & she's not even 5 months old yet, so I imagine she's just going to get better as a pet.
I took her out to the country a couple of weeks ago & we walked through the woods & rode my ATV all day. She loves the outdoors. She enjoyed running around in the woods & stayed within 20 feet of me at all times without a leash. She was also a hit with all my buddies down there. I can brag on her all day long, but what's most rewarding is hearing comments from family, friends & neighbors: "she's the sweetest dog," "my dogs could never be off the leash & yours is only 4 months old," "she is so smart," "she's a great dog," etc.
Hope this helps,
Tray
PS I'll put the word out that you're going to be breeding one of your dogs again soon. My parents may be interested.
